Rugby is a major sport in Wales and followed passionately in Merthyr.  Whether you want to take in the atmosphere of a live match or relax in one of our friendly pubs to watch the game, we have something to offer you!

Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and the WRU have formed a partnership to bring a fully comprehensive Rugby union programme to the borough. The programme works hand in hand with both Schools and clubs and is encompassed in the Cardiff blues region.

The Community Rugby development officer aims to:

  • Develop Rugby for those aged 8 - 21 in the the county borough
  • Volunteer & Referee Recruitment
  • Increase participation of the game of rugby in schools and clubs in the area
  • Disability Groups
  • Elite Player identification
  • Advice on Sourcing Funding
  • Player Development
  • Create opportunities for coaches to gain further knowledge through a comprehensive coach education programme
  • Womens & Girls rugby development
