Canolfan Cyfarthfa

Canolfan Cyfarthfa has been built and is designed to sit sympathetically within the beautiful surroundings of Cyfarthfa Park.

Listed below are some of the features of the centre

Sedum Roof

The sedum roof is a unique feature of the centre. Sedum is a large genus of flowering plants in the family Crassulaceae, members of which are commonly known as stonecrops. The plants have water-storing leaves. The flowers usually have five petals, and are hardy and low-maintenance.

Some of the benefits of this roof are:

  • Reduced environmental footprint
  • Wildlife Habitat creation
  • Attenuation of storm water
  • 40% water retained on roof reducing sewage and flood problems
  • Absorption of air pollution and dust
  • Microclimate creation (reduction of heat island effect) & increased humidity
  • Reduced heating and air conditioning costs
  • Absorption of noise
Ground Source Heat Pumps

The centre also provides under floor heating, using a groundsource heat pump which heats the floor of the building by using the heat from the rocks within the Earth.

Rain Water Harvesting

There is a rain water harvesting facility which reduces costs by storing rain water, which is then used in the flushing system of the toilets on site
