Cyfarthfa Park History

Although much is made of Cyfathfa Castle and its Museum and Art Gallery, Cyfarthfa Park has as much history and heritage as the aforementioned places, and in many ways all of these attractions can be viewed as a whole picture rather than fragmented pieces.

The Crawshay family used the park to follow their interests in horticulture and the Ironworks can be seen from the Park.  The feeder lakes behind the Castle served an important purpose in filtering much needed water down to the main lake which in turn supplied the Cyfarthfa Leat, sending the much needed water supply to Cyfarthfa Ironworks, at one time the largest ironworks in Europe.

Nowadays, the park still holds a lot of this heritage, and the woodland walks in the park will take you around some interesting features, and plant species.

Developments in the Park mean that as a destination, Cyfarthfa Park provide a day out for the whole family, come rain or shine, and many of the facilities are free to visit!
