Nature Reserves
There is about 2889 ha of open common
land within Merthyr Tydfil.
Nature Reserves - The Taf
Fechan Reserve situated in Cefn Coed and the second,
Pontygwaith which is a privately owned Nature reserve in the
southern end on the Borough.
Penmoelallt and Cilsanws are managed
by the Merthyr Tydfil & District Naturalists Society, and work
with the community and Forestry Commission to conserve and promote
the natural environment.

Forestry with public access - The
main forestry site with public access
is Gethin Woodland
Park, which is situated west of the A470. The Forestry Commission
have also dedicated many of their sites throughout the County
Borough as Open Access Land.
