Global Village

Celebrating the diversity of Merthyr Tydfil

Background

The Merthyr Tydfil Global Village Event was established in 2005 to celebrate and raise awareness of the cultural diversity and heritage of Merthyr Tydfil.

Initial discussion took place within the Multi Agency Diversity Forum (MADF) - a partnership of local statutory and voluntary organisations that meet to address issues of diversity and hate crime. The members of the MADF wanted to develop an event that took their responsibilities and work in this area outside of their own organisations.

It was decided that an event linked to Merthyr Tydfil's Heritage Festival would be the best way to involve as many members of the community as possible.

Merthyr Tydfil Global Village is a constituted group of volunteers committed to working with statutory and voluntary organisations and with individuals to promote equality and diversity within the County Borough of Merthyr Tydfil. One of the Global Village aims is to celebrate and raise awareness of cultural diversity.

Merthyr Tydfil Global Village has applied to be registered with the Charity Commission.

The association has a management committee of volunteers.
