Trails
If you like walking, or you just want to see a bit more of the
beauty of Merthyr, going for a stroll on one of Merthyr's trails is
a good way to see all that Merthyr has to offer.
With over 200 rights of way in Merthyr Tydfil, bridleways, and
the more established tracks and trails on which you can ride your
bike, you can tailor your day out to suit yourself!
Whether you wish to cycle the Taff Trail, or take a leisurely
walk along the Celtic trail, stopping off for refreshments along
the way, we have trails to suit all tastes, and lets not forget the
Trevithick Trail - following the line of the first steam locomotive
to pull a load on rails in 1804. No matter where these trails take
you, you will find a wealth of wildlife and history at your
fingertips, and the pubs and cafes en route will provide that
friendly welcome which is a signature to any visit to Merthyr
Tydfil!
Please note that the map marker on the above map is situated on
the Taff Trail, near the Cyfarthfa Ironworks. We are
currently working on an interactive mapping system, which will
incorporate downloadable trails and inform a phone application
which will enable you to walk Merthyrs trails, be informed about
places of interest, and learn something of the geology, nature and
heritage of the area (as well as where to stop for refreshments on
the way!).
