Brecon Mountain Railway

Brecon Mountain Railway - one of “The Great Little Trains of Wales”.

Our great little train takes you on a journey that follows in the steps of its forebearers. It meanders through the valley on part of the original route of the Brecon to Merthyr railway build in 1859.

The journey takes you high into the Brecon Beacons National Park.  It ambles through Pontsticill and along the full length of the Taf Fechan Reservior before climbing steeply into the Brecon Beacons reaching the summit of the original line at Torpantau 1313ft above sea level.

Our vintage steam train travels non-stop from Pant to Torpantau. The return journey from Torpantau stops at the picturesque Pontsticill station. Here you can visit our Lakeside Cafe while you admire the spectacular view.  You are free to take a stroll alongside the stunning Pontsticill reservoir or just sit and let your children blow off steam in the play area.

At our main station in Pant, you can visit our Licensed tearooms for refreshments, or find gifts and souvenirs in our shop. You can also visit our workshop where skilled craftspeople repair the steam locomotives and carriages.
