One of Merthyr Tydfil's oldest sports clubs.

Merthyr RFC's first recorded game was in 1876 and was played at the Plymouth Ground at Pentrebach, known as Merthyr Alexandra.

Merthyr RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union, playing in the Principality Premiership, and are a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues.

Its current home is at The Wern in Ynysfach, which recently saw a £1.13m expansion including the construction of a new 700–seater stand, all-weather pitch, floodlights, male and female changing rooms, weight training facilities and a dedicated youth centre.
