STEP OFF THE TRAIN AND INTO NATURE!
Remote Heights, 13th July: Brecon Mountain Railway & Guided Walk to an Ancient Stone
Challenge yourself on this exhilarating 8-mile guided walk through the dramatic landscapes of the Brecon Beacons, combining a rewarding climb, stunning views, and fascinating history. You will be led by Sarah Price who is a qualified and fully insured Lowland Walk Leader. Sarah, who operates Walk Hay, will ensure that every step of your adventure is safe, enjoyable, and enriching.
Starting with a scenic ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway, you’ll be transported deep into the heart of the National Park, where our walk begins.
The route starts with a gradual climb to the highest point of the walk, the trig point at Pant y Creigiau (565m), offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and reservoirs below. From here, we traverse high moorland scattered with striking limestone outcrops and intriguing shakeholes, perfect for soaking in the dramatic scenery and capturing photos.
As we descend, the walk takes us to the ancient, inscribed stone at Cwm Criban, an early medieval Christian monument featuring rare Ogham writing. This fascinating landmark provides a glimpse into the area’s rich history before we continue along the ridge, passing old quarry sites and more limestone features, eventually making our way back to Pant Station, the starting point of the train line.
