STEP OFF THE TRAIN AND INTO NATURE!

Reservoirs & Forests, 8th May: Scenic Train & Guided Walk in the Brecon Beacons

Experience the stunning landscapes of the Brecon Beacons on this guided adventure that combines a scenic train ride with an 8-mile hike back to the starting point. You will be led by Sarah Price who is a qualified and fully insured Lowland Walk Leader. Sarah, who operates Walk Hay, will ensure that every step of your adventure is safe, enjoyable, and enriching.

Departing from Torpantau Station, the train winds past shimmering reservoirs and dramatic mountain views, setting the stage for a day immersed in nature.

Our walk begins at the end of the railway line, nestled between the mountains. We’ll follow a forestry track along the eastern side of the valley, offering panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. The route descends to a dam connecting two picturesque reservoirs, where we’ll pause to enjoy our packed lunches in this peaceful setting.

From the dam, we’ll ascend into lush forests, walking along a section of the renowned Taff Trail. Emerging from the trees, we’ll visit the charming village of Pontsticill before descending across the valley and up to walk paths passing old quarry sites, making our way back to Torpantau Station. We’ll return in time to catch the 3:10 PM train back to the start of the line, finishing back at Pant at 16:10.
